Final Crown or Bridge

Care for your permanent restoration and know when soreness or bite changes need attention.

Your new crown or bridge should feel natural.

Mild gum soreness or sensitivity can happen at first. Good daily cleaning helps it last.

What to Do Today

  • Do not chew until the numbness is gone.

  • Chew slowly the first time you use the new crown or bridge.

  • Brush gently around the gumline.

  • Follow any special cement instructions we gave you.

What to Expect Next

Tomorrow

  • Brush twice a day.

  • Floss every day.

  • For a bridge, clean under the false tooth with a floss threader, small brush, or water flosser.

Days 2-3

  • Mild cold sensitivity or gum soreness may improve.

  • The bite should feel even.

Days 4-7

  • The crown or bridge should feel more natural.

  • Call us if the bite feels high or chewing hurts.

Later Healing

  • Keep the gumline clean every day.

  • Keep regular checkups so we can check the crown or bridge.

Pain Relief After Dental Treatment

Most people do not need pain medicine. If you are sore and the medicines are safe for you, use the adult pain guide given by the office.

Mild soreness or sensitivity may occur after treatment. Follow any medication instructions given specifically to you by your dentist.

When safe for you, an over-the-counter pain reliever such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen may help. Follow the medication label and do not exceed the recommended dose.

Before taking pain medicine, check with a physician, pharmacist, or dentist if you are pregnant, take blood thinners, have kidney or liver disease, have a history of stomach ulcers or bleeding, regularly drink alcohol, or have been told to avoid these medicines.

Contact our office if discomfort is severe, continues to worsen, or does not improve as expected.
