Temporary Crown or Bridge
Protect your temporary restoration and know what to do if it loosens, breaks, or comes off.
Your temporary protects the tooth while the final crown or bridge is made.
Temporary cement is not as strong as final cement. A few simple steps can help it stay in place.
What to Do Today
Do not chew until the numbness is gone.
Avoid hard or sticky foods on the temporary.
Chew on the other side when possible.
Brush gently around the temporary.

Tomorrow
Floss each day.
Slide the floss out through the side. Do not pull it straight up.
Keep avoiding gum, caramel, sticky candy, ice, and hard nuts.
Days 2-3
Mild gum soreness or cold sensitivity can be normal.
The tooth should feel better each day.
Days 4-7
Keep the temporary clean.
Call us if it feels loose or the bite feels high.
Later Healing
Keep your appointment for the final crown or bridge.
A temporary is not made to last for a long time.
Pain Relief After Dental Treatment
Mild soreness or sensitivity may occur after treatment. Follow any medication instructions given specifically to you by your dentist.
When safe for you, an over-the-counter pain reliever such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen may help. Follow the medication label and do not exceed the recommended dose.
Before taking pain medicine, check with a physician, pharmacist, or dentist if you are pregnant, take blood thinners, have kidney or liver disease, have a history of stomach ulcers or bleeding, regularly drink alcohol, or have been told to avoid these medicines.
Contact our office if discomfort is severe, continues to worsen, or does not improve as expected.
